Surface Area

picture_surface_area

Surface Area is a measure of the exposed surface of a solid sample on the molecular scale. The BET (Brunauer, Emmet, and Teller) Theory is the most popular model used to determine the area; results according to the Langmuir model are also available.

Dubinin surface area is also offered by the Particle & Surface Sciences Analytical Services Laboratory. Dubinin is often used when working with char or carbon material. The Dubinin analysis uses CO2 and is available on the Tristar 3020.

The Tristar 3020 and the Gemini 2390 are all in use at our laboratory.

Micromeritics Gemini 2390

  • High speed analysis with Nitrogen for BET and Langmuir surface area.

    Micromeritics Tristar 3020
  • Analysis with carbon dioxide for Dubinin.

  • Analysis with argon for isotherms and surface area.

  • Analysis with nitrogen for isotherms and surface area.
